Make Your Dream Retirement A Reality at Highland Springs

Bill and Mica Sleeper are still impressed by what Highland Springs offers, even after years of getting to know the community.

Highland Springs, an Erickson Senior Living community in North Dallas, Tex., is redefining retirement living.

Freed from the burdens of homeownership like mowing lawns, raking leaves, and making ongoing repairs, residents have more time to participate in engaging activities, make new friends, and enjoy an array of on-site amenities.

Just ask William "Bill" and Mica Sleeper, who moved to Highland Springs in 2018.

"There are so many opportunities to socialize," Bill says. "We have taken advantage of that and jumped in with both feet. It's such a blessing to have all the activities."

A wish come true

The Sleepers' journey to Highland Springs started with a campus tour. "When Highland Springs sent a postcard to visit, have lunch, talk, and get a tour, we did," Mica recalls.

They were impressed with everything the community has to offer--predictable monthly costs, maintenance-free homes, a range of on-site amenities, dozens of clubs, convenient health care services, and more.

Although they loved everything they saw and heard, Mica thought they'd visit more retirement communities in the Dallas area and choose one when they were ready to move--until she asked Bill how he would like to celebrate his birthday, that is.

"Take a trip? Have a party?" Mica recalls asking. "He took about five seconds and then said, 'I want to move to Highland Springs.'"

Bill got his birthday wish!

Newfound freedom

Now, Bill and Mica are taking advantage of their newfound freedom by joining lots of clubs and classes, making new friends along the way.

Bill coleads a popular exercise class in the fitness center twice a week. Mica plays canasta with neighbors, volunteers at the community's Treasure Chest resale shop and with the local Meals on Wheels program, and tends to her personal patch in the community garden.

Together, they attend Friday Night Happy Hour in their neighborhood clubhouse, Magnolia Place.

"One of the most fun things we do is meeting that group of about eight couples on Friday nights," Mica says. "Everybody brings snacks. We visit, talk, and have a good time. It's a nice, sweet group of people."

Social dining

The Sleepers have found that dining at Highland Springs' eight on-site restaurants is another great way to meet new people.

"It's always nice, friendly, and welcoming," says Mica.

Thanks to the Signature Dining program, the made-to-order menu items at the community's fast-casual venues, bistros, bars, and full-service restaurants change regularly--something they never expected of a retirement community.

"Residents are always inviting friends and new neighbors to join them for high-quality meals at our restaurants," notes Sales Director Christina Christie.

Envision your future

If this sounds like your ideal retirement lifestyle, Christie encourages scheduling a personalized tour and joining the Priority List for a more in-depth look at community life.

Visits are tailored to highlight amenities that matter most to you, including active spaces like the pool and clubrooms or more relaxed areas such as the outdoor patios and library.

"In addition to saving a spot in line for a future residence, Priority List members can sign up for an overnight Live the Life stay," she says. "It's an opportunity to join classes, dine at the restaurants, and chat with current residents."

Christie continues, "Many prospective residents leave very impressed with everything Highland Springs has to offer. The value of our worry-free lifestyle and amenities is unbeatable!"

Still amazed

Even after eight years at Highland Springs, Bill and Mica continue to be pleasantly surprised by the community's range of engaging events and activities.

"There's a wealth of things for every interest here," Bill says. "Fitness classes, card games, pickleball, bocce, and the clubs! The scope of the activities still amazes us."

"Another great thing about being here is that if you don't find a group that would be about an interest of yours, you are able to start one," Mica adds.
