The City of Dallas Office of Arts in Culture was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts that will fund a temporary public art installation coinciding with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The city issued a press release about the grant on Wednesday. According to the release, Dallas was selected as one of 11 awardees of the "Arts Projects Spotlighting the Spirit of Sports" grant, which supports projects that are coordinated by the host cities of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Each of the grant recipients will receive $30,000 for their projects, which will take place between May 1-Dec. 31. The projects will range from performances, exhibitions, concerts, festivals, and educational programming.
The Dallas grant will fund a temporary art installation called "The World Is Ours" by artist Risk Rock. The sculpture will be installed at Fair Park on the same platform as the iconic Big Tex and will coincide with the site's role in hosting the World Cup team activities and Fan Fest events. The piece is currently on view at Gallery DeFi in West Dallas.
"The World Is Ours" is a large-scale sculpture measuring eight-feet wide and 12-feet high. It features a bold bronze hand lifting an immense, gently rotating globe. The globe is engineered from repurposed spray cans and embellished with vibrant license plates collected from around the world.
The fusion of art and engineering invites viewers to engage with the work through curiosity, cultural recognition, and a sense of shared global identity, reflecting the spirit of international sport by symbolizing how communities come together through shared experiences.
