The Dallas Police Department seized 75 pounds of marijuana at Dallas Love Field on Thursday.
The department posted to social media about the confiscation and subsequent arrest of a passenger alleged to have been traveling with it on Friday.
According to the post, an airline partner alerted officers about a suitcase on-board a flight from Las Vegas into Love Field. It had broken open and revealed a large amount of marijuana hidden inside.
Narcotics detectives then responded and found two additional suitcases carrying marijuana packed into vacuum sealed pouches, totaling 75 pounds.
Detectives then identified the suspect, 25-year-old Jennifer Manzanares-Herrera, and took her into custody before she could leave the airport. She is charged with possession of marijuana between 50 and 2,000 pounds, which is a second-degree felony.
"Our public safety mission includes protecting Dallas from being used as a drug transportation hub, and the Narcotics Unit maintains a presence at Dallas Love Field to detect and intervene when illegal drugs are moving through the airport," the post reads.
Also on Thursday, FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock spoke at a press conference hosted by the USAO-Northern District of Texas. During the conference, Rothrock announced Operation Red Card, a DOJ initiative aimed at reducing violent crime before, during, and after the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Rothrock emphasize the importance of local, state, and federal partnerships and how together we will keep the North Texas region safe for our residents and visitors. Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux was in attendance.
