Earlier this week, the Dallas Police Department honored fallen Officer Henry A. Brown with a ceremonial street topper at I-20 Westbound Service Rd. and North Cedar Ridge Dr.

The department recapped the event in a social media post on May 6. According to the post, Brown was assisting a stranded motorist changing a tire on April 25, 1997.

As he was retrieving the spare tire from the trunk of the motorist's car, another motorist lost control of their car and hit the back of the back of Brown's squad car.

The impact pushed the squad car forward into the motorist's car, pinning Brown between the two vehicles. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Brown served the Dallas Police Department for seven years and won many awards and accolades during his tenure, including 35 accommodations and two life-saving awards. He was named president of Class #222.

In addition to serving in the Texas Army National Guard for 13 years, Brown was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother.

Members of the command staff and the Dallas Police Department joined members of Brown's family at the unveiling.

Also on May 6, the department remembered the death of Officer Thomas Grady Burchfield, who died on May 6, 1990. He and fellow officer Michael Okelberry were both killed when their patrol car was struck head-on by a pickup truck traveling in the wrong direction in the 800 block of Woodall Rogers Freeway.
