The wait it over. The City of Dallas and Keep Dallas Beautiful just announced the winners of the Love Your Block mini-grants. The money goes to community leaders and groups that will lead revitalization projects to strengthen their neighborhoods.
The city celebrated the winners in a Wednesday press release. According to the release, the city partnered with Code Compliance Services to select 25 winning projects from over 100 applications sent in by residents and community groups proposing creative solutions to addressing local challenges.
The awardees are challenged to work with city government to improve neighborhoods and public spaces using $2,00o individual grants. A total of $50,000 was awarded across projects.
A list of the winning applicants shows just over a dozen beautification projects, two public art/mural projects, two restoration and resiliency projects, three education efforts, and four proposals classified as "other."
Love Your Block is made possible with support from the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University. It brings city leaders and residents together to build stronger neighborhoods, a block at a time.
Twymeika Hill-Jones was a recipient of the Love Your Block in its first year. "I learned that when something is rooted in care, people will support it," Hill-Jones said. "They'll protect it and help it grow."
