Dallas Police Arrest 160 in 'Operation We Got You'

The Dallas Police Department announced this week that it arrested more than 160 individuals during Operation We Got You, conducted in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service.

The department announced the results of the campaign in a Wednesday press conference.

According to the department, the operation started on April 1 and concluded on May 5. It netted 162 arrests of offenders accused of some of the "most violent and heinous" crimes seen in the community, police said.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux said, "Today is about public safety, partnership, and accountability. The Dallas Police department remains relentless in our mission to identify, locate, and remove violent offenders from our communities."

He said the operation is another example of what happens when strong partnership and focused enforcement comes together with a common goal of making the city safer.

"Violent criminals should know this clearly," he said. "We're not waiting for violent criminals to strike again. We are going after them, finding them, and taking them off the streets."

The entities represented in the operation included DPD's patrol divisions and fugitive unit, as well as the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force.

"Operations like this are what proactive policing looks like," Comeaux said. "Gov. Abbott's directive to expand the Texas Repeat Offender Task Force reinforced what we already know. Repeat violent offenders pose a serious threat to our communities, and it takes strong partnership and decisive action to stop them."

However, arrest is only part of the solution, he said. "Accountability matters," he said. "During Operation We Got You, 162 violent offenders were arrested and 86 remain in custody. That tells us progress is being made, but more work still needs to be done."
