More Mosquito Samples in Dallas Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Three new areas in the Dallas County tested positive for West Nile Virus. Here's what residents need to know in order to stay healthy.

Dallas County Health and Human Services issued a bulletin about the positive tests on Monday afternoon. According to the bulletin, mosquitoes in the Dallas zip code of 75244 tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Additionally, mosquitoes from two areas in the Farmers Branch zip code of 75234 tested positive for West Nile Virus.

As a result of previous positive tests, the City of Dallas announced recently that it would conduct mosquito control spraying in one area from Tuesday, May 19 to Wednesday, May 20.

The area to be sprayed is within an area generally bounded by 4700 Heatherbrook Dr.; Mill Run Rd. on the north; Rickover Court on the west; Inwood Rd. on the east; and Forest Lane on the south.

While the United States Environmental Protection Agency approves the insecticide for treatment, residents in those areas should avoid contact with the spray by staying indoors if possible.

If residents do have to be out while trucks are actively spraying should remain in their vehicles with the windows up and the air conditioner on until the trucks pass through.

Dallas residents are urged to take precautions against mosquito bites by reducing outdoor activities during the evening and nighttime hours. Residents who are outside during these times should cover their arms and legs and use a mosquito repellent.
