Dallas native and NFL star Deatrich Wise, Jr. is bringing his passion for service back home next month with a new charity golf tournament aimed at supporting military veterans in need.
Wise, Jr. will host his inaugural Heroes on the Green Golf Invitational on Friday, June 12, at Cedar Crest Golf Course, one of Dallas’ most historic public golf courses. The event will raise funds for his Dallas-based Wise Up Foundation and its “Hot Meals for Vets” initiative, which provides meals, hygiene services, and other resources to homeless and underserved veterans.
The tournament is expected to bring together professional athletes, local business leaders, sponsors, and community supporters for a day focused on giving back to those who served in the military.
“Dallas is home, and giving back to the community that helped shape me means everything,” said Wise, Jr. “Our veterans have sacrificed so much for this country, and through this tournament, we want to create real impact by supporting programs that provide essential services and long-term support.”
Wise, Jr.’s connection to veteran causes is personal. His mother, Shiela Wise, served 22 years as a nurse in the U.S. Army, something he says inspired his commitment to honoring veterans and military families.

Wise, Jr. said he hopes the tournament becomes an annual tradition in Dallas.
“We want this event to become something the community looks forward to every year—a chance to come together, enjoy the game of golf, and most importantly, stand behind the men and women who have served our country,” he said.
Raised Carrolton, Wise, Jr. emerged as a standout two-sport athlete in football and track & field at Hebron High School before earning a football scholarship to the University of Arkansas. After a four-year career with the Razorbacks, he was selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Over eight seasons as a defensive end in New England, Wise Jr. appeared in two Super Bowls, won a championship ring during the 2019 season, and was a Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee for his impact on and off the field. He currently plays for the Washington Commanders.
