The Memorial Day weekend is going to be a rainy one in North Texas, but the severe weather threat is low.
The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the forecast on Thursday afternoon.
According to the forecast, daily chances for showers and storms continue each day through the weekend. Locally heavy rain is possible, but the threat for severe storms is low.
Residents with outdoor plans over the Memorial Day weekend should remain weather alert. Drivers should remember to never cross flooded roads, and boaters should be ready to seek safe shelter.
According to the Texas A&M Forest Service Fire Potential Update for May 21-24, statewide fire potential will continue to decrease due to this increasing moisture and expanding precipitation chances across the state. No fire weather triggers are currently forecast.
The High Plains and Caprock predictive service areas have seen improvements in fuel moisture that are expected to continue this weekend. The Trans Pecos predictive service area will maintain low potential for lightning ignitions, however, improving fuel moistures should keep any fires that do occur small.
The service has responded to 29 fires in the past week. Fire response has diminished and will continue to be limited through the outlook as rain hits much of the state this weekend. Rainfall totals will continue to accumulate, with the highest totals concentrated across southern and eastern Texas.
