Two More Areas in Dallas to Be Sprayed for West Nile Virus

More mosquito samples in Dallas tested positive for West Nile Virus, and therefore the city is scheduling two additional mosquito control spraying sessions.

The city put out the details in a Wednesday press release. According to the release, the two control areas to be sprayed are in City Council districts 4 and 9. The spraying will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on June 4 and 5.

The District 4 control area is bounded by 4200 Maryland Ave.; East Overton Rd. on the north; Sun Valley Dr. on the west; Kostner Ave. on the east; and Five Mile Parkway on the south.

The District 9 control area is bounded by 6700 Sperry St.; Blessing Dr. on the north, Springside Ln. on the west; Dalgreen Dr. on the east; and Southridge Dr. on the south.

While the United States Environmental Protection Agency approves the insecticide for treatment, residents in those areas should avoid contact with the spray by staying indoors those hours.

People inside a vehicle while trucks are actively spraying should stay in their vehicles with the windows up and the air conditioner on until the trucks pass through and the spray is no longer visible.

Anyone outside during the scheduled spraying time should be alert for trucks and should not follow them. Residents who come into contact with the spray should wash the affected area thoroughly.

Dallas residents are urged to take precautions against mosquito bites by reducing outdoor activity during the evening and nighttime hours. Residents who must spend time outdoors during these times should cover their arms and legs and use mosquito repellent.
