The City of Denton issued a traffic alert for McKinney St. as crews began this Thursday to install a new pedestrian bridge across the channel.
The city posted the traffic alert to social media on earlier this week. According to the post, crews started the work of installing a new pedestrian bridge across the channel along the south side of E. McKinney Street as part of the larger sidewalk project.
The McKinney Street sidewalk project will create more accessible pathways for people walking along the roadway.
This work won't mean a total closure of E. McKinney St. during the bridge installation, but drivers may experience delays between Woodrow Ln. and Mack Dr. as flaggers direct alternating traffic through the westbound lane. Normal traffic flow will resume once the bridge is complete.
"We encourage the community to plan ahead, be mindful of work crews, and follow the flaggers directing traffic toward the westbound lane of E. McKinney St.," the post states.
The city aims to complete the McKinney St. sidewalk project and have the area available for public use by August. Learn more information about the project on the city's website.
