Dallas Pet Owners Invited to Free Microchip Event Ahead of July 4

Every year, shelters across the country see an increase in stray pets following celebrations.

Dallas Animal Services is hosting a free microchipping event ahead of the July 4 holiday weekend.

The city put out a press release with the details on Tuesday afternoon. According to the release, the event will take place on Sunday, June 28, from noon-4 p.m. at the shelter located at 1818 N. Westmoreland Rd.

Pet owners are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity before the holiday weekend. That's because fireworks can be frightening for pets and are one of the main reasons animals get lost every year.

"Fireworks may be fun for people, but they can be terrifying for pets," said Dallas Animal Services Director Paul Ramon. "A microchip provides a permanent form of identification that can make all the difference when it comes to reuniting lost pets with their families."

Each and every year, shelters across the United States see an increase in stray pets following Fourth of July celebrations as dogs and cats become startled by the loud noise and escape from yards, home, or walks.

Last year, Dallas Animal Services took in 100 stray pets over the July 4 weekend. That's why the shelter is encouraging residents to take proactive steps right now to ensure that if their pets do become lost they can be quickly reunited.
