It will be a hot, humid, and windy weekend in North Texas with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s.
The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the forecast on Thursday afternoon.
According to the bulletin, heat index values will approach 102-108 degrees each day. Southerly wind gusts up to 30-40 mph will also be possible through the weekend into early next week.
Heat safety is a serious matter. Excessive heat is a significant health risk, because it can lead to heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Heat stroke can result in death.
Residents should remember to stay cool, keep hydrated, and take plenty of breaks in the shade or A/C if they spend prolonged periods of time outside.
Additionally, residents should minimize direct sun exposure, wear and reapply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every two hours, and wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
Whenever possible, reduce or reschedule strenuous activities until the coolest time of the day. Make sure that children, seniors, and anyone else with health concerns stay in the coolest available place, although not necessarily indoors.
