Crews Begin Trinity River Remediation Operations at Riverwood Site

Crews began remediation operations at the Riverwood site of the Trinity River on Monday.

The City of Dallas put out a press release with the details. According to the release, the city determined following a comprehensive site inspection that the current weather and river conditions were favorable to begin operations.

On Monday morning, crews began mobilizing the heavy equipment needed to complete the work and active river cleanup operations are underway. The project will take approximately two weeks to complete.

Dallas Water Utilities is actively coordinating logistics and resources with multiple city departments, including Dallas Fire-Rescue, the City Marshal's Office, Code Compliance, and Sanitation Services.

That collaboration should hopefully ensure seamless operations over the course of the work. Staff will continue to closely monitor site and weather conditions over the weekend and will provide updates should circumstances change.

The Riverwood cleanup area is now an active construction zone. To ensure public safety and operational efficiency, the city is limiting access to the site by unauthorized personnel while the cleanup is going on. Community members are urged to avoid the area entirely.

Trinity River was once home to one of the largest illegal dumping sites in the area. Unfortunately, the practice continues despite remediation efforts by the city and community groups.

Fox 4 KDFW said that the city has known about this particular dumping site for several years but didn't take action to address it until the outlet ran a news report on the issue.
