Dallas to deploy Barnacles on cars with unpaid parking tickets – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth (nbcdfw.com) — Dallas drivers with three or more unpaid parking tickets could soon find a bright yellow Barnacle device suctioned to their windshield instead of getting towed, starting Monday, August 24. The city spent $50,000 on seven devices and a drop-off system, letting motorists unlock and return the Barnacle after paying fines, while also preparing to raise downtown and Deep Ellum parking meter rates in the coming weeks.
   

2. Dallas proposes dropping PPO health plan for employees (fox4news.com) — Dallas city leaders are weighing a proposal to drop the city's PPO health plan to avoid a $10 million budget gap and steep premium hikes. More than half of city employees, including police and firefighters, could be shifted to HMO options if the City Council approves the budget on September 16, raising concerns about doctor access and higher monthly costs.
   

3. Dallas ISD police officer injured in officer-involved shooting released from hospital (fox4news.com) — A Dallas ISD police officer shot with his own gun during an August 6 struggle near LBJ Highway and Midway Road has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home. Investigators say Officer Justin Jones was wounded in the leg after helping remove a man from the highway and driving him to a nearby parking lot, and the suspect has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a public servant.
   

4. A mysterious portal will open at Galleria Dallas this weekend (dallasnews.com) — Galleria Dallas is hosting a free, three-day Wildwood "portal" experience this weekend, giving locals an early, immersive peek at the new stop‑motion film. The pop‑up, designed with the movie's art director, features interactive forest sets, hidden Easter eggs, and a digital keepsake photo for each visitor on the mall's first floor near Lane Boots.
   

5. Rookie Ran Binyamin scores first goal in stoppage time to give FC Dallas win over Salt Lake (dallasnews.com) — FC Dallas fans just saw their club pull off a dramatic 4–3 road win over Real Salt Lake, capped by rookie Ran Binyamin's first MLS goal in stoppage time. With Petar Musa adding two more to his league‑leading tally, Dallas extended its strong away form and continued a long scoring streak against RSL.
