Three Harmony North Texas Parents Recognized With 2026 Heroes for Children Award

Three Harmony Public Schools-North Texas parents were recognized Sept. 4 in Austin as recipients of the 2026 Heroes for Children Award during the Texas State Board of Education's general meeting.

Sadia Hassan of Harmony Science Academy-Euless, Villa Copeland, who served the Harmony Science Academy-Dallas Elementary community during the 2025-26 school year, and Hannah Ramsey of Harmony School of Innovation-Garland were among 15 recipients recognized statewide for their service and support of public education.

The three North Texas parents were among six Harmony Public Schools parents recognized with the 2026 Heroes for Children Award. Together, the six honorees represented Harmony school communities across Texas.

At Harmony Science Academy-Euless, Hassan has supported students and families through her work as a PTO leader and volunteer. She helped organize a community response after a senior student's family lost their home in a fire, raising more than $1,000 in three days and coordinating donations of clothing, food and other essential items. She was also named the campus' 2026 Parent of the Year.

At Harmony Science Academy-Dallas Elementary, Copeland served as PTO vice president and was named the campus' 2026 Parent of the Year. During her time at the school, she supported campus initiatives and helped connect students and families with needed resources.

At Harmony School of Innovation-Garland, Ramsey has contributed her time and professional experience to support student programs, classroom learning, athletics and campus activities. She was named the campus and district's 2026 Parent of the Year.

"Parents play an important role in the success of our schools, and these three individuals have gone above and beyond in service to their students, educators and school communities," Harmony Public Schools-North Texas Superintendent Harun Karan said. "We are proud to see their commitment recognized at the state level."

The Heroes for Children Award was established by the State Board of Education in 1994 to recognize volunteers whose service, time and support make significant contributions to Texas public schools and students. The State Board recognizes 15 recipients each year, with one recipient selected from each of its districts.

The Sept. 4 recognition brought together the 2026 Heroes for Children recipients from across Texas to celebrate their contributions to students, schools and communities.
