Today's riddle: Why do Norway's navy ships all have barcodes? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. One Dead In Dallas U.S. 75 18-wheeler crash (dallasexpress.com) — A deadly crash involving an 18-wheeler and multiple vehicles shut down part of U.S. 75 near the High Five Interchange in Dallas around midday Monday, killing one person and injuring three others. Dallas police and Fire-Rescue say at least one survivor is in critical condition, and investigators are still working to determine what caused the collision on this heavily traveled route.
2. Betting that Abbott will soon restore funding, some Texas agencies accept Flock's offer to keep cameras on (kvue.com) — Dallas will keep more than 300 Flock Safety surveillance cameras running for 90 days after the company paused payments while Texas freezes state funding. City police now regain nearly half their camera network, but long-term plans and funding remain uncertain as state leaders debate the controversial technology and some other Texas cities shut their systems down.
3. Fair Park sees progress one year after Dallas resumes control (nbcdfw.com) — Dallas has spent the past year tackling long-deferred repairs and upgrades at Fair Park after resuming day-to-day control, from HVAC fixes in key museums to better security and incident monitoring. City leaders say maintenance backlogs are shrinking and longer-term event contracts could bring more revenue, with the goal of making the 277-acre park a year-round destination for Dallas residents.
4. One of Dallas' best smashburger shops closed unexpectedly (dallasnews.com) — Uptown Dallas burger fans just lost a favorite: NADC Burger on McKinney Avenue has closed after a lease dispute, ending its 13‑month run serving a highly praised Wagyu smashburger. The brand's only remaining North Texas location is now inside a Fort Worth comedy club, though its owners say they may look for another Dallas-Fort Worth spot in the future.
5. State Fair of Texas extends free student ticket validity through Oct. 18 (fox4news.com) — Families in Dallas can now use students' free State Fair of Texas tickets any day through Oct. 18, including weekends, after bad weather disrupted opening plans. The extension covers kids within 100 miles of Fair Park, and parents can snag $5-off admission plus additional evening discounts, making it easier for local families to enjoy exhibits, cultural programs, and rides.
