Forney Hosptial 'Hazmat Situation' Confirmed To Be Sewer Gasses

FORNEY, TX — An emergency center run by Baylor Scott & White in Forney was evacuated Tuesday after someone from the hospital reported a gas-like smell. Kyle Rouvaldt, a public information officer for the City of Forney, confirmed Tuesday afternoon the cause of the suspicious smell was non-hazardous sewer gas.

Patients who were experiencing symptoms like headaches and nausea were relieved of those symptoms once they went outside and breathed fresh air, Rouvaldt said. The emergency center has not yet reopened, but it is allowing the building to air out in the meantime.

Some patients from the emergency center, located at 757 Highway 80 in Forney, were transferred to other hospitals, a report from the Kaufman Office of Emergency Management said. Dallas Fire Department's hazardous materials team responded to the call.

Forney Fire Department, Kaufman Office of Emergency Management and CareFlight were on scene.

It's unclear when the emergency center will reopen.
