Here are the top stories in Dallas today:
- City employees in Dallas will now get up to six weeks of paid time off after the birth of a child. The City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the policy. Previously, city employees had to use sick days and vacation time to take time off for a new baby. If that ran out, they would go unpaid. The new policy applies to both male and female employees. (FOX 4 Dallas)
- A Wind Advisory was in effect for North Texas Thursday and caused issues, including power outages and flight cancellations. The elevated fire danger was another top safety concern.
The National Weather Service reported top peak wind gusts of 58 mph at Dallas Love Field and 56 mph in McKinney as of 2 p.m. Thursday. (FOX 4 Dallas) - Two firefighters who were injured in an apartment explosion in Dallas last month were reunited on Wednesday. Captain Chris Gadomski and Driver Engineer Ron Hall are continuing their recovery after the explosion that injured eight people on Sept. 29. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
- Dallas Police Department is warning people about scammers claiming to be officers and utilizing caller ID spoofing. (CBS Dallas / Fort Worth)
