Fort Worth’s animal shelter has been completely full for many weeks now, and adoptions are more important than ever. Currently, there are about 800 pets being cared for at the shelter.

The shelter hopes to alleviate that with Date Night at the Fort Worth Animal Shelter, a special adoption event from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at the beautiful, new North Animal Campus, 351 Hillshire Drive.
“Our shelter is faced with a huge challenge — too many animals coming in and not enough finding their way to the homes they deserve,” said Dr. Tim Morton, Code Compliance assistant director with oversight of Fort Worth Animal Services. “The effects of the recent closure of intakes at the Humane Society of North Texas has been unprecedented, but we’ve had great support from our rescue group partners and foster families. We’re hoping this adoption event will provide some much-needed relief.

“All public shelters rely on the community,” Morton said. “We know we can get through this with the partnership of our Fort Worth residents. Community support enables adoptions, returning pets to loving homes, and fostering pets until it’s their turn for adoption. We are fortunate to have done so much with the support of our wonderful community, and some really great pets need that support again.”
This Saturday’s Date Night will include showcase both dogs and cats. The dogs will get the opportunity to walk down an 80-foot red carpet so everyone can meet them up close and personal. The dogs will be thrilled to show off their amazing attributes.
Other fun activities are planned for the evening. All pets available for adoption have been vaccinated, spayed/neutered and have received medical examinations. There’s no cost to attend Date Night.
