International Volunteer Managers Day was begun in 1999 as a day to recognize the work of volunteer managers from around the world. Managers of volunteers have the skills and knowledge to mobilize volunteers and meet many community needs.

The profession of volunteer leadership is celebrated each Nov. 5, and the city is proud of the many staff who support more than 25 volunteer programs and lead volunteers every day.

The City of Fort Worth’s volunteer coordinators managed more than 8,000 volunteers in the 2021 fiscal year and coordinated 100,000-plus hours of service. They provide leadership, direction and encouragement to the residents who donate their time to serving the city.

It takes a strong team to create and coordinate meaningful volunteer opportunities that have volunteers serving again and again.

“Volunteer coordinators go above and beyond to take care of the city’s volunteers and create impactful volunteer opportunities for our residents. They support their departments and divisions, engage with the community and motivate thousands of volunteers,” said citywide Volunteer Program Coordinator Tabitha Butler. “I am proud to be on their team.”

Some of the city’s volunteer coordinators work with and manage volunteers 100% of the time and are titled volunteer coordinators, and some may interact with volunteers as a responsibility of their role. Regardless, the influence they have on volunteers is valuable to the city’s mission: Working together to build a strong community.
