The free flu shots are available at more than 60 participating pharmacy locations. Through the Expanded Access Program, Tarrant County has partnered with Albertsons, Kroger and Tom Thumb to provide flu shots for the uninsured. The Expanded Access Program was created in 2020 to lower barriers to accessing the flu vaccine.

“Tarrant County has put aside $1 million for this Flu Vaccine Expanded Access Program for the uninsured,” said Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja. “It is a big investment in expanding preventative services for the uninsured to address health disparities and access to care in Tarrant County.”

There are no out-of-pocket costs to the recipient. Tarrant County will reimburse the participating pharmacies for uninsured vaccinations. For those with insurance, most insurance companies cover the flu vaccine as a benefit each year.
