City Of Fort Worth: Help Plan The Future Of The Historic Preservation Program

Help establish a strategic vision for Fort Worth’s Historic Preservation Program during a series of community meetings in January.

A kickoff meeting is set for 6-8 p.m. Jan. 13 at Thistle Hill, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave. The keynote speaker will be Mark Lamster, architecture critic for The Dallas Morning News. Parking is available in the Cook Children’s parking garage at Pennsylvania Avenue and Seventh Avenue. Guests should use the service door on the west side of the building as the entrance.

In addition, four community meetings are scheduled:

• Jan. 15, 10 a.m. to noon, Tarrant County College Opportunity Center, 5901 Fitzhugh Ave.
• Jan. 18, 6-8 p.m., Southside Preservation Hall, 1519 Lipscomb St.
• Jan. 20, 6-8 p.m., Northside Tri-Ethnic Community Center, 2050 Roosevelt Ave.
• Jan. 25, 6-7 p.m., virtual meeting. Register online; the meeting link and login information will be sent to registrants.

Residents who are unable to participate in one of the meetings can learn about the plan and provide feedback online.

About the Historic Preservation Plan

City Council initially adopted the 2003 Historic Preservation Plan on July 15, 2003. The 2003 plan was Fort Worth’s first citywide Historic Preservation Plan and established goals, objectives and strategies for future action for the City of Fort Worth and the community to work in conjunction to complete.

The city, in partnership with the community, has achieved over 95% of the original goals, objectives and strategies laid out in the 2003 Historic Preservation Plan.

The Historic Preservation Ordinance and best preservation practices recommend updating goals, objectives and strategies of a preservation plan every five years. Historic Preservation staff, in partnership with the community, intend to undertake a strategic update of current preservation tools and conditions in Fort Worth, as well as set new goals, objectives and strategies for future action for the city’s Historic Preservation Program. The proposed update will establish a strategic vision for the Historic Preservation Program for the next five to 10 years.
