In the Social Impact category, the awards jury selected Union Gospel Mission’s The Vineyard on Lancaster, 2208 Cyprus St., as a finalist. This is a new 104-unit tax-credit project serving homeless people and their families.

In the Next Big Idea category, dinner attendees heard presentations about three ambitious projects. After a moving speech by Fort Worth community leader Opal Lee, the attendees voted by cellphone to select Transform 1012 N. Main Street as recipient of the award. The historic building at 1012 N. Main St. is one of several potential sites being considered for a proposed African American museum and cultural center. The project is included in the federal budget bill for $3 million in funding.

Next Big Idea nominees do not have to be completed projects. They are innovative ideas that can positively impact the region’s quality of life.

Originally scheduled to be held in October 2020, the awards dinner was postponed due to the global pandemic. As with years prior, proceeds of the gala support ULI Dallas-Fort Worth in furthering the ULI mission via education programs and volunteer outreach to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in local communities and worldwide.
