Dallas Men Among Victims Of NYC Helicopter Crash

The crash killed five passengers on board the helicopter. Two victims remain unidentified.

Two Dallas men were among those killed Sunday when a helicopter carrying sightseers went down in the East River in New York City. Police identified them as Brian McDaniel and Trevor Cadigan.

Cadigan, 26, is a New York-based video journalist from Dallas and McDaniel, 26, is a firefighter from the same city.

A Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman confirmed McDaniel was an employee of the department at the time of his death. A statement from Dallas Fire-Rescue said the department will work to provide for Cadigan's family in the aftermath of his death.

"Officer McDaniel was single, and had no children, but was immediately survived by his Father, of Dallas; and his Mother and older Brother, of Denver, CO. Despite his short tenure, hearts are heavy with grief as we not only try to come to grips with his loss departmentally; but to also be there in every way that we can for his family. "

Cadigan graduated from Bishop Lynch High School before completing a degree at Southern Methodist University, KDFW reported. Cadigan, son of WFAA's longtime production manager, served as an intern for the station.

The station's general manager, Brad Ramsey, issued a statement offering condolences to the Cadigan family and to WFAA's employees.

"The entire WFAA family is heartbroken by the sudden and tragic loss of Trevor Cadigan. We would like to thank the many friends and former employees of WFAA who have reached out to offer your condolences and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Trevor’s family and friends, and with the families of all of the victims of yesterday’s tragic accident."

A third passenger on the flight was Carla Vallejos Blanco of Argentina, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The other two victims have not been identified pending notification of their families, the Police Department spokeswoman said.

Richard Vance, the pilot of the privately chartered helicopter owned by New Jersey-based Liberty Helicopter Tours, was the lone survivor of the Sunday evening crash near the Upper East Side of Manhattan, authorities have said.
