Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:

  1. Rent prices in the Dallas area have risen more than 17.5 percent since last year. The increase is due to a demand that far outweighs the area's supply of rental units. The average rent has hit a record high of $1,526 a month for a Dallas rental. The solution to rising rental costs is to simply build more affordable housing but supply chain issues and a slow city permit process are preventing the construction. (The Dallas Morning News)
  2. Dallas plans to address traffic deaths with a roadmap to improve street safety within the city. The Dallas City Council hopes that the new roadmap will allow it to meet its goal of no traffic deaths by 2030. The roadmap will improve the city's road and sidewalk infrastructure while increasing police traffic enforcement. (The Dallas Morning News)
