Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- A South Dallas teen was fatally shot on Saturday at the Parks at Cliff Creek Apartments on Marvin D. Love Service Road. The 16-year-old female victim was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. A second teen shooting victim remains at the hospital in stable condition. The incident is under investigation and the motive has not been determined. (Irving Weekly)
- Gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke spoke to Democrats in Dallas on Friday night. He spoke of supporting teachers, fixing the state's electrical grid, and investing in energy efficiency. Democrats emphasized their commitment to voting rights, a woman's right to choose, and Texas power grid improvement during the convention. Governor Abbott currently leads O'Rourke by an eight percent margin, according to CBS News. (Patch)
- Most of North Texas is currently under an Excessive Heat Warning. The warning will reportedly last until 9:00 p.m. tonight, Jul. 18. The heat index could climb to 110 degrees throughout the next couple of days. Remember to hydrate and reduce outdoor activity. (Patch)
