Expect a Warm End to the Week in North Texas

North Texas residents can expect warm weather on Wednesday and Thursday with highs in mainly in the mid-90s.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the forecast on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the bulletin, the heat indices may reach the upper 90s to near 105 degrees. There is also a low chance for a few showers and storms Wednesday afternoon across Central Texas.

On Thursday night, a weak front will approach the region and become nearly stationary through Friday. That should cause scattered showers and storms to develop mainly along the Red River on Friday.

The main hazards associated with the storm activity will be gusty winds and frequent lightning. Residents should plan for interruptions to outdoor activities.

When it comes to the weekend, there will be multiple chances for scattered showers and storms late Saturday through early next week.

The NWS is watching the potential for a few strong to severe storms with strong winds, hail, and locally heavy rain being the main hazards. There could also be triple digit heat indices this weekend.

According to the bulletin, this will be the first extended stretch of summertime heat and humidity. Residents should take proper precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses if they plan on spending time outdoors this week.

Precautions include drinking plenty of water; limiting time outside to the cooler part of the day; wearing light-colored, breathable clothing; taking frequent breaks in the shade when outside; and being able to recognize the symptoms of heat illness.
