Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. Dallas area first responders had to rescue residents from vehicles on Monday morning after flooding. Drivers along Interstate 30 experienced neck-high waters after almost 15 inches of rain impacted East Dallas yesterday morning (Aug. 22). The Flood Watch was in effect until Monday night at 8:00 p.m.; drivers were asked to stay off the roads. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  2. The DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field canceled numerous flights due to storms impacting North Texas. Thousands of travelers were left stranded due to the cancellations. The flights resumed yesterday as the storms lessened. In total, more than 3,000 flights were impacted. Some flights were switched to later this week in response. (Dallas Morning News)
  3. Dallas Area Rapid Transit announced a new chief of police. Charles Cato has been appointed to lead the department's security services. The department has over 250 licensed officers, 67 support staff, and 110 officers appointed to enforce fares. Cato served with the Mesquite Police Department chief before being appointed to the new position. (NBC DFW)
