Fort Worth Officer Praised For Role In Hostage Situation

Fort Worth Police Officer D.C. Lancaster was inducted into the Saves Club for his brave actions on July 18 during a standoff on Broadmoor Drive.

During the call, a 19- year-old man armed with a handgun held two hostages in an apartment and refused to surrender or release the hostages. Lancaster was the primary officer attempting to communicate with the suspect, who soon begin firing shots at officers. A bullet pierced the door, striking a Safariland Protech Assault II ballistic shield Lancaster was holding.

The Saves Club honors officers who, during the line of duty, experience a life-threatening incident in which their Safariland Group armor or gear contributed to saving their lives. These heroes become advocates for the law enforcement community, expressing the importance of wearing body armor and providing safety tips derived from their own experience.

Safariland presented FWPD with a ballistic shield to replace the equipment that was compromised during the July incident.
