Happy Thursday, people of Dallas! Let's get this day started. Here's everything you need to know today in Dallas.

First, today's weather:

A shower and thunderstorm. High: 83 Low: 65.

Here are the top stories in Dallas today:

  1. Real estate investors who have bought up land south of downtown Dallas have recently revealed plans to develop it into a high-speed passenger rail terminal. The proposed station would be part of a 50-acre property along Riverfront Boulevard owned by a pair of Dallas-Fort Worth developers. One owner, John Kleinheinz, said the high-speed rail project connecting Dallas and Houston "will be as transformational to Texas as DFW Airport was to the region when it was opened." 2. The PA and lighting alert system at Dallas fire stations is often delayed and sometimes does not work at all, according to the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department. The 20-year-old system, which Department representatives believe is in need of replacing, is frequently delayed up to 90 seconds after a dispatch call comes in. This means firefighters on duty lose valuable time in traveling to the site of an emergency. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  3. Two data loss incidents in 2021 have affected an estimated 17,000 Dallas PD criminal cases, and prosecutors fear that the lost files could cause certain cases to be thrown out. A full update on the impact is expected this week. (FOX 4 Dallas)
  4. The city of Dallas is considering granting almost $4 million in tax breaks over the next 10 years to the developers of the proposed 80,000-square-foot Kroger grocery store and 376 apartments on North Hall Street. City Council members agreed to defer a vote on those tax incentives until a later meeting. (D Magazine)
  5. Local dentist Dr. Field Harrison of Mint Dentistry has launched the 100-percent volunteer "Amen Church" at Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, saying he "honestly just felt called to do it." (WFAA.com)
