Internet Issues Return To Spectrum Customers In Dallas

Spectrum said it is working to resolve internet issues that affected Dallas customers overnight. Restarting modems could return service.

DALLAS, TX — Spectrum customers throughout Dallas are experiencing internet outages and delays. Spectrum announced on Twitter Thursday morning at 6:38 a.m. that internet issues had been resolved, but Tweeted that some of the service issues had returned at at 9:03 a.m. Spectrum recommends customers restart their modems in an effort to return connectivity.

Data taken from DownDetector shows outages are still affecting large metro areas across Texas including Dallas, Austin and San Antonio, but Spectrum spokesman Brian Anderson said the website is not the best gauge for monitoring internet outages.

"Realize that down detector is not the best gauge for what is going on," he said. "It’s not an official website. It uses a lot of different things to track activity, including social media activity. Even in the aftermath of a situation, there is still activity and such it can pick up on."

He said customers' service should return to normal after they 'power cycle' or restart their modems. Spectrum recommends the following procedure to properly power cycle modems.

  1. Shut down your computer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the modem and remove any batteries.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, then reinsert any batteries and reconnect the power to the modem.
  4. Wait two minutes to allow the modem to connect. The modem connection lights will be solid.
  5. Turn on your computer.
  6. Attempt to surf to two web pages to verify that you're connected to the internet.

Anderson said the situation is improving, but that Spectrum is not quite ready to say everything is completely resolved.
