Standoff In Dallas Apartment Ends, Baby Safe

Various media sources report the man has been taken into custody after an hours-long standoff at a Dallas apartment.

DALLAS, TX — One man has been taken to custody after a lengthy standoff with police and SWAT officers. Media outlets reported the man had barricaded himself and an 11-month-old child in an apartment in the 3800 block of South Walton Walker Blvd. in Dallas. Sources say that baby is safe.

A string of overnight events led up to the incident. A spokesperson for the Ellis County Sheriff's Office told CBSDFW the incident began around midnight Wednesday when the department received a report that a man had kidnapped his ex-girlfriend from Galaxy Drive-In Theatre in Ennis, Texas. Deputies told the news station the man released the woman at her mother's home in Dallas. That woman is said to be safe.

Police went to Walker Place apartments to serve a kidnapping warrant, where they discovered the man had barricaded himself and the child in the apartment, CBSDFW reported. Police then blocked off the area around the apartment complex, and SWAT officers were dispatched to the scene.
