Mavs Trade Porzingis To Wizards For Dinwiddie, Bertans: Report

DALLAS, TX — Dallas Mavericks center Kristaps Porzingis is on the move three years after the team acquired him in a blockbuster trade with the New York Knicks.

The Mavericks are trading Porzingis and a second round pick to the Washington Wizards for guard Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans ahead of Thursday's NBA trade deadline, according to a report from ESPN.

Porzingis came to Dallas in a trade with the Knicks in February 2019 while he was sitting out the 2018-'19 season recovering from an ACL injury. In parts of three seasons with the Mavericks, he averaged 20 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.

The 26-year-old dealt with a series of injuries while with the Mavericks and has missed the last five games with a knee injury. Porzingis has two years and $69.8 million left on a five-year contract he signed with Dallas in the summer of 2019, according to Spotrac.

Dinwiddie is averaging 12.6 points and 5.8 assists in 44 games with the Wizards this season and has two years and $36.8 million left on a three-year deal he signed this offseason. Bertans broke out in the 2019-'20 season, averaging 15.4 points per game and shooting 42.4 percent on 3-pointers, but he's seen his playing time dip the past two seasons after signing a 5-year, $80 million contract. He is averaging 5.7 points and 14.7 minutes in 34 games and has three years and $49 million left on his contract.

The Mavericks made several other moves Thursday, highlighted by signing forward Dorian Finney-Smith to a four-year, $52 million contract extension, according to The Athletic. Finney-Smith was set to be a free agent after the season. Dallas also recalled center Moses Brown from their G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends, according to a team news release.

The Wizards also are trading former Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell to the Charlotte Hornets for Ish Smith and Vernon Carey Jr. and are sending guard Aaron Holiday to the Phoenix Suns, according to the ESPN report.
