Here are the top stories today in Dallas:

  1. Yesterday, Mayor Eric Johnson unveiled an ethics reform proposal produced by his task force. The proposed recommendations aim to establish a culture of ethical excellence, simplify and clarify the code of ethics, and create a transparent online database. At the center of the proposal is the creation of the Office of Inspector General to investigate potential ethics violations, proactively monitor compliance, and serve as a resource for city employees and city officials. This reform follows a series of corruption cases that involved Dallas city officials. (WBAP News/Talk)
  2. Three Dallas-Fort Worth startups founded by Black entrepreneurs are collectively receiving $300,000 from the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund. Each of the three startups — Fêtefully, Safer Management, and XR Sports Group — has been awarded $100,000 from the search engine giant. In all, the Google for Startups program chose 50 startup founders across the U.S. to receive a total of $5 million. (CultureMap Dallas)
  3. Dallas Police K-9 officer Ballentine makes a 42-pound marijuana bust at Dallas Love Field Airport. (CBS Dallas / Fort Worth)
  4. A 14-year-old girl was fatally shot at a Dallas apartment complex on Skillman St. (WFAA.com)
  5. Parkland Hospital has begun giving Pfizer booster shots to eligible populations, including those over the age of 65 and individuals with underlying health conditions. (FOX 4 Dallas)
