Here are the top stories today in Dallas:
- Recent city data is showing a decrease in crimes across Dallas. Police Chief Eddie Garcia told the city's Public Safety Committee on Monday that the department is seeing crime trends improve since the implementation of his crime reduction plan, including a 10 percent drop in murder and a 28 percent drop in robbery. While the Chief said much more needs to be done, the council recognized significant strides. (WBAP News/Talk)
- A Dallas police officer was shot and wounded while responding to a burglary call in a Lake Highlands apartment complex early Monday morning. The sergeant was shot at least four times by a man he had confronted in the building. The officer is currently in stable condition but may need surgery for the serious injuries he sustained. - Pizzana, a Neopolitan-style pizzeria whose partners include Candice Nelson of Sprinkles cupcakes, actor Chris O'Donnell, and Naples chef Daniele Uditi, is coming to 3219 Knox Street in Dallas in spring 2022. (CultureMap Dallas)
- Dallas ISD Spanish teacher Akash Patel, from Ignite Middle School, has just been elected to serve the next three years as president of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the highest office in the country for foreign language teachers. (Dallas ISD)
- Texas is slated to receive millions from the recently-passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, much of which will go toward environmental fixes. (CultureMap Dallas)
