Murphy Recycling Art Contest Sets Deadline
Each of the four first-place winners will choose from a $300 gift card from either Visa, Amazon or Walmart.

MURPHY, TX -- Aspiring artists should dust off their paint brushes for the sixth annual Keep Murphy Beautiful Recycling art contest. The contest requires school-aged contestants to create a poster with a mascot depicting the phrase: “Don’t Mess with Murphy.” Deadline for entries is Jan. 17 at 5 p.m.
The competition is divided into four grade-level categories: K and 1st; 2nd to 4th; 5th and 6th; and 7th through 10th.
"Students who reside in Murphy or who attend school in Murphy, including those who are home-schooled, attend private schools or attend alternate educational institutions are eligible," Municipal Voice said in a news release.

Posters should be submitted on standard-sized 8 ½ by 11-inch paper, poster or card stock. The submission must be designed in portrait or vertical orientation and should include the name of the mascot. Media can include crayons, markers, water color or acrylic paints, color pencils, ink or other similar media. Digitally-created submissions will not be accepted this year, in an effort to encourage entrants to develop that hand-drawing skills. Entries must have the artist’s name, age, grade, address, and phone number clearly printed on the mandatory entry form as well as on the back of the entry. Entries without the official entry form cannot be accepted. Each entrant will receive a commemorative T-shirt, and there is a limit of one entry per person.
“As usual, we will have several categories and great prizes for the winners,” Bailey Ragsdale, president of Keep Murphy Beautiful, which is co-sponsoring the contest, said in the news release. “Like in previous years, grand prize winners in the various categories will get their artwork displayed on the sides of recycling trucks, and our honorable mention entries will be reprinted on the sides of our Big Belly recycling collection bins.”
