Happy Saturday, Dallas! These are the most important things happening today in town.

First, today's weather:

Showers and a heavier t-storm. High: 82 Low: 65.

Here are the top stories today in Dallas:

  1. Dallas Big Brothers, Big Sisters is actively seeking more male volunteers. The nonprofit is attempting to find a number of mentors for hundreds of children in the program by launching a campaign. It is hoping to recruit at least 30 men in 30 days. (FOX 4 Dallas)
  2. A recent Dallas report revealed that oversight and lack of adequate policies resulted in the mass deletion of police department files earlier this year. A city IT employee was supposed to move archived police files from online storage to a physical city drive starting March 31. The employee "insufficiently assessed and documented" how risky it was to move the data in the way that he did, the report said. About 4.1 million photos, videos, audio, case notes, and other items have been permanently erased and another 4.6 million files are missing. (The Dallas Morning News)
  3. Check out the best (mostly) all-ages Halloween events this Oct. in Dallas this month. (Dallas Observer)
  4. The Dallas Independent School District recently announced a data security incident that occurred on Aug. 8, 2021, involving the district's electronic records of certain former and current students, alumni, parents, and district employees. (inForney.com)
  5. Learn how you can help families displaced by the Dallas apartment explosion. (WFAA.com)
