Officer Involved Shooting Reported In Garland

The officer was uninjured, WFAA reported.

GARLAND, TX — A Garland Police Department officer was involved in a shooting near I-30 and Bass Pro Drive Tuesday afternoon, the department said on Twitter.

The shooting happened in the 1500 block of I-30. As a result, the westbound loop entrance will be closed for an investigation.

No officers were injured, WFAA reported. Witnesses told the station the suspect had "big knives" and was seen banging on walls near the scene of the shooting.

Lt. Pedro Barineau with the Garland Police Department said the man was swinging the knives at passing cars in the parking lot and the roadway.

Police confronted the man, and shots were fired by an officer, KXAS reported. The man was killed at the scene.

The suspect has not yet been identified by a medical examiner.
