Police have announced the body of a child was found during a search for Sherin Mathews. A positive identification has not yet been made.

RICHARDSON, TX — Police have announced a child's body was found in Richardson during a search for missing 3-year-old Sherin Mathews. Police say the body was found in a culvert under a road around 11:00 a.m. near the girl's home. The body was found with the help of search dogs.

A police department spokesman said the situation indicates the body does belong to 3-year-old Mathews, but the claim has not yet been verified. The Richardson Police Department announced on Facebook it is waiting for an FBI Evidence Recovery Team to respond. Police have notified the Mathews family.

"The indications are that it is most likely her, however we do not have a positive ID. Until we have a positive identification, we are not going to say that it is Sherin," the spokesman said.
