Dallas officer's act of bravery earns statewide recognition

Dallas, Texas - On September 11, a formal ceremony in Austin, Texas will see Governor Greg Abbott awarding the distinguished Star of Texas Award to Senior Corporal Scott Jay of the Dallas Police Department. This award recognizes Jay's bravery during an incident of significant danger in April.
The Star of Texas Award is conferred upon individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary valor in their professional roles, either as peace officers, firefighters, emergency medical first responders, or federal law enforcement officers. It especially honors those who have endured injuries or have given their lives in their community's service.
Scott Jay, who is married to Amy Jay, an esteemed PreK teacher at Hazel Ingram Elementary School, exhibited remarkable bravery during a confrontation on April 27. While attending to a shooting scene where multiple family members had been injured, Jay, along with his K9 partner Figor, encountered the suspect responsible for the disturbance.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia has since extended a special commendation to Figor, highlighting the dog's "heroic" efforts.
