Texas Ranked As 5th Least Safe State In America

The safest states were Minnesota, Vermont, and Maine.

Texas had the inglorious distinction of being ranked as the 5th least safe state in the country according to a new report from personal finance website WalletHub. The organization compared the 50 states across 52 metrics, including assaults per capita, unemployment rate, and total loss amounts from climate disasters per capita, WalletHub said in a news release.

Texas ranked ahead of Alabama and behind Arkansas. The least safest state was Mississippi. The safest states were Minnesota, Vermont, and Maine.

The report used date from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Department of Labor - Employment and Training Administration, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, and U.S. Department of Labor, among other sources.

  • 25th – Murders & Non-Negligent Manslaughters per Capita
  • 31st – Assaults per Capita
  • 42nd – Loss Amounts from Climate Disasters per Capita
  • 31st – Fatal Occupational Injuries per 100,000 Full-Time Workers
  • 37th – Fatalities per 100 Million Vehicle Miles of Travel
  • 18th – Law-Enforcement Employees per Capita
  • 15th – Bullying Incidence Rate
  • 36th – Sex Offenders per Capita
  • 50th – Share of Uninsured Population
