Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- Dallas park officials are spreading herbicide to kill toxic hemlock around White Rock Lake. Maintenance crews located several populations of water hemlock along the lakefront. The plant can be toxic if exposed through the skin but is highly toxic if ingested. The plant acts on the central nervous system. (The Dallas Morning News)
- Dallas Meals on Wheels is distributing fans during the triple-digit heatwave. The service is a vital lifeline to individuals who are homebound. The boxed fans are important during the brutal stretch of hot weather that the area is experiencing. Thousands of homebound residents are fed through the program. (FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth)
- Dallas County Health and Human Services has reported its first case of heat-related death this summer. The individual was a 66-year-old woman with underlying health conditions.
