Toys R Us Spares Allen Store

One Allen Toys R Us store originally slated to be shuttered will remain open among nationwide cutbacks.

ALLEN, TX — One of the five North Texas Toys R Us locations slated for closure has been spared. Coming only days after the children's retailer announced 183 nationwide store closures, a decision to spare Toys R Us/Babies R Us cobranded stores will keep a store in Allen open.

The store is located at 170 E. Stacy Road and is the only Toys R Us store in the city. The list of spared stores, however, does not precent the shuttering of four other North Texas locations. Stores in Irving, Lewisville, Dallas and Hurst will be closed in the coming months.

  • 420 E. Round Grove Rd., Lewisville TX
  • 13710 Dallas Parkway, Dallas Galleria TX
  • 1309 W. Pipeline Rd., Hurst TX

According to a CNBC report, a number of the retailer's remaining locations will be co-branded as Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores. The closure and rebranding announcement comes about four months after the chain filed for bankruptcy protection.

David Brandon, chairman and CEO of the toy retailer, said the brand is reinventing itself, a decision he described as "tough."

"The reinvention of our brands requires that we make tough decisions about our priorities and focus," Brandon said in a letter posted on the company's website late Tuesday.
