Here are the top stories in Dallas today:

  1. In his state of the city address this week, Mayor Eric Johnson teased a pending report on workforce development, which he called "one of the most important and least discussed issues of our time." Some experts worry that increasing automation and other-long term trends in our globalized world are going to cost workers — especially low-wage workers in roles that don't require an expensive education — their jobs. The broad idea behind the workforce development that Johnson supports is that we can "upskill" those workers to do the jobs that won't be given to robots. (D Healthcare Daily)
  2. Dallas has a $2 billion backlog of crumbling or missing sidewalks — but only about $15 million in this year's budget to start tackling the problem. City council members heard a briefing on the sidewalk challenge this week; one member suggested asking charities to help chip in more money. Consultants were also hired to prepare the sidewalk master plan that identifies the problems and guides improvement. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  3. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas and Baskets for Good are teaming up to feed 400 families this Thanksgiving (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  4. A Dallas IT employee fired during the summer after city officials said he deleted millions of police files is appealing his termination. (Bakersfield.com)
  5. Didn't see the Beaver Moon? See lunar eclipse photos, as viewed from Dallas. (The Dallas Morning News)
