Vickery Meadow Foundation launches The Success Center initiative

Dallas, Texas - In a significant move towards the improvement of the Dallas community, the Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation has unveiled its newest initiative named The Success Center.

Established as a focal point for educational enhancement, personal growth, and community development, the center's mission is to provide an environment conducive to comprehensive advancement.

Janet Morris-Lane, the Foundation’s Executive Director, detailed the center’s innovative approach during an interview with CBS News Texas.

“We start with our scholars when they’re in middle school and stay all the way through college graduation because we know to get them to college is one thing, going through college is a whole different matter. To pair with that, we have moms groups so that we are connecting, so it’s a two-generational approach,” Morris-Lane commented.

“As we move forward, we want to really grow and offer things to the broader community and to do other educational opportunities with and for the community.”

The Success Center is set to introduce an array of well-structured programs and resources, targeting the empowerment of the younger generation to excel academically and become leaders in society. Their offerings include:

1. Comprehensive educational workshops tailored to bolster academic capabilities and prepare students for college.
2. Career development sessions, where attendees can refine their resume-writing skills, participate in mock interviews, and develop professional networking strategies.
3. Mentorship opportunities allowing industry veterans to share their expertise and insights, thus assisting in the academic and professional growth of the students.
4. A unique ‘relationship incubator’ designed to nurture connections among the 30 diverse languages and cultural backgrounds represented in the Vickery Meadow community.
5. Community events open to all age groups, aimed at promoting community cohesion and collaboration.

With its holistic suite of programs, The Success Center exemplifies community engagement and educational progression, further adding to the notable achievements of the Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation.

“There’s over 30 languages in the Vickery Meadows community, so a lot of families are refugees and immigrants in this community but there’s a whole diversity of people,” Morris-Lane noted. “Every time I’ve ever met with a family, they have always said—you know, if they came from another country—’I came here for education.’ Even families that live here, have lived here all their lives, if they haven’t had opportunities in life, they’re always saying, ‘I want my kid to have that educational opportunity that I didn’t have.”
