What's It Like Being A Police Officer In Texas

The worst states to be a cop in were Louisiana, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

Texas was ranked as the 21st best state to be a police officer in according to a new report from personal finance website WalletHub. The organization looked at all 50 states and Washington, D.C. across 27 indicators of police-friendliness; including median income for law-enforcement officers, police deaths per 1,000 officers, and state and local police-protection expenses per capita, WalletHub said in a news release.

The best states to be a cop in were New York, Maryland, and California. The worst were Louisiana, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

The report used data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Justice Statistics, and The National 911 Program, among many other places.

  • 4th – Law-Enforcement Officers per Capita
  • 8th – Median Income for Law-Enforcement Officers (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
  • 39th – Median Income Growth for Law-Enforcement Officers
  • 35th – Violent-Crime Rate
  • 15th – % of Homicide Cases Solved
  • 33rd – State & Local Police-Protection Expenses per Capita
  • 29th – Police Deaths per 1,000 Officers
