Will You Let Amazon Into Your Home? 'Amazon Key' Expands To Dallas
Online retailer says a new delivery service in Dallas will place packages inside your home while you're gone with new Amazon Key device.

DALLAS, TX — How much do you value Amazon purchases? Do you care enough that you would let a delivery person into your home when you aren’t there? Amazon hopes you do, because their newest delivery service depends on it.
Dallas is among the first cities where "Amazon Key" will be available beginning Nov. 8. The service, available to Prime members, would enable an Amazon courier to enter your residence to drop off packages. Amazon announced the process will work as follows:
- First, customers must buy an Amazon cloud camera and compatible smart lock for $249.99.
- Second, authorize free indoor delivery at checkout when making a purchase.
- When the courier makes it to your house, you will receive an “arriving now” notification from Amazon. The courier will request to unlock the door with a handheld scanner. Amazon verifies the package is meant for that address, turns on the cloud cam and unlocks the door.
- You will be sent a notification and a video clip taken from your Amazon cloud camera once the dropoff is complete and the door is locked.
The Amazon Key will give homeowners the option to allow family and friends permanent access to homes as well as temporary access for visitors or housekeepers. The key will notify the homeowner any time the door is unlocked or locked.
