Woman, 63, Shot After Intervening On Fight; 78-Year-Old Arrested
Police found the murder weapon inside, documents state. The accused shooter and the victim lived in the same house.

DALLAS, TX — A 78-year-old man is in jail Thursday morning after a shooting incident that left a woman, 63, dead in far south Dallas.
A probable cause affidavit from Dallas Police Department details the incident, stating it began as a fight over someone's property.
The accused, Willie Elder, was arguing with someone in the house in the 1200 block of Serenade Lane when the victim, Grace Mathis, stepped up and confronted Elder over the discussion, the document states.

During the argument, Grace Mathis was shot dead. Witnesses interviewed by police corroborated the story, and one claimed Elder had fired shots toward Mathis and the witness, who was not injured.
When authorities responded to the 9-1-1 call, Mathis was found dead from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The relationship between Elder and Mathis is not known, but police wrote in the document that they both lived at the address.
A gun was found in the house.
Elder was booked into Dallas County Jail in lieu of $250,000.00 bail.
