Woman Killed In Shootout With Farmers Branch Police Officer

A woman was killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday after she reportedly fired a shot that struck a police officer in Farmers Branch.

FARMERS BRANCH, TX — A woman who shot a police officer in the 2800 block of Valley View Lane in Farmers Branch Tuesday evening died after he returned fire.

The incident, which began as a traffic stop, escalated when the officer asked the passenger to exit the car. The passenger was later identified as 38-year-old Brooke Amelia Comancho.

WFAA reported Comancho pulled a gun and fired a shot at the officer. The shot struck the officer in his bulletproof vest, which the police department credits with saving his life.

The officer returned fire and shot Comancho. She was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The officer was treated for minor injuries and later released from the hospital.

Dallas Morning News reported the male driver was arrested and questioned but later released. Police did not release the name of the male driver. The driver cooperated with police during the traffic stop, WFAA reported.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
